About me:

A child of the Sunshine State, I moved to Melbourne in 2010, after an adventure filled year backpacking all over the great seas, I had arrived home a little sullen and bored. Upon a short visit to Melbourne I thought 'Yes thank you, here's nice, I'll just pull up a chair and join in shall I?'. I'm a self confessed serial book worm, with a penchant for attacking several books at any given time, depending on what my mood is, resulting in some good humored ribbing from mynnearest and dearest. When I don't have my head stuck in a book you'll either find me lazing in my local park scribbling and cloud watching or holed up in any cafe that can supply a steady enough stream of macaroons to keep a Russian army fed.

What do you love about working at dorothy&evelyn?

Its a bit like going to a convention, everyone has something in common because there's always something for everyone and that's why they're there, whether it's seeds for the garden or a funny little card, that's a nice feeling.

How long have you worked at dorothy&evelyn?

Since August, I'm the new kid on the block.

What's your fave product in the store right now?

I love the teacup candles, when I first saw them I had one of those 'Why didn't I think of that moments, I love tea, I love candles.... I've bought them for friends and family, myself of course, after all you can never have enough prettily scented candles displayed in beautiful vintage teacups can you? No, I don't think so.

Favourite Blogs/Websites?

I'm more of an information you can hold in the palm of your hand, words you can literally eat if you so wish kind of gal, but when I do join the rest of the world I like these guys..

Originally from Perth, Western Australia, Ruby is a long-term Sales assistant at dorothy&evelyn, but by night she's a professional go-go, swing and burlesque dancer. Ruby loves dressing up, taking photographs, drinking 100% juice, hanging out with her best friend - who is also conveniently her fiance, learning foreign languages, op shops and yard sales, devouring books, drawing, 1920's-1960's fashion/design and fine dining!

What do you love about working at dorothy&evelyn?

I love helping and chatting with my customers! I love how cozy and inviting the shops are, all the goodies we sell (obviously!) my colleagues - who are more like my friends then my co-workers! and the sweet strawberry scented oil we burn in the shops - every second customer asks "what is that beautiful smell?!!"

How long have you worked at dorothy&evelyn?

Going on 2 years now.

What's your fave product in the store right now?

I love Pigeonhole! I used to frequent the store when it was just a little hole in the wall (excuse the pun!) back in Perth. Their jewellry is so delicate and simplistic and goes with every single outfit. I also love our beautiful vintage dresses and our wonderful card selection (I collect)

I love working in the beautiful stores with all their colour and lovely products. In particular I enjoy designing the window displays and helping customers find that special gift or lovely vintage dress for their wardrobe.

What's your fave product in the store at the moment?

My favourite products at the moment are the Emily Green earrings; they are such a cute size and come in lots of fresh and bright colours.

I really enjoy the street peeper website because it has such a global focus and you are able to see what is happening in street fashion all the way from Tokyo, Paris, New York and even our own Melbourne. Broadsheet is another great website/newspaper that has a bit of everything including fashion, entertainment and write ups about local cafe's and restaurants.

Hollie is the assistant manager at dorothy and evelyn. She also is a jeweller who works with resin and has her own little business called hokey, sweet handmade accessories. Hollie is a total bookworm, loves french cinema, art, craft, design and fashion. She is passionate about photography, riding her bike in the sunshine, enjoying a cider or two (also in the sunshine) and going out to see cool bands.

What do you love about working at dorothy and evelyn?

I love that I get to work with a bunch of ace girls who I have grown to love as close friends. Everyone is just so supportive and lovely. Plus I'm lucky enough to get to do fun things like writing the shop blog and even little photo shoots.

How long have you worked for d&e?

Just over a year now, although I have been selling my jewellery through the shops for nearly three so I feel like I have been a part of dorothy and evelyn for a long time.

What's your fave product in the store at the moment?

I am obsessed with our jewellery by pigeonhole. I really love our vintage knitwear and I gotta get myself a set of these - I love to bake and they would look amazing in the new house I'm moving into next week!

Fave blogs/websites?

Check out the sidebar on the blog, they are some of my absolute favourite sites. I've actually been reading (and writing) blogs for years. I adore fashion/design/style/photography and occasionally even food blogs. Websites I frequent often include grooveshark (for listening to cool tunes) flickr (for checking out beautiful photography) and tumblr (mostly for visual inspiration) I also am constantly inspired by Lula, dumbo feather and frankie magazines.

One of my all-time favourite accessory labels we have in the store would have to be lila ruby king. These sweet earrings and brooches are all individually hand-drawn and coloured (so every piece is slightly different and totally unique) and finished using a high-quality acrylic. Sarah is the manager of the current d&e stores, she would like to think she is funny. She is a terrible cook, enjoys people, her beautiful puppy 'Gem' and long walks on the beach (actually true). She spends most of her weekends in Anglesea and Geelong although she lives in Melbourne. A passionate and friendly person, so come in and say hello...

What do you love about working at dorothy and evelyn?

I love the freedom of self expression that we as staff are allowed to have. We can wear what we like and are free to be who we are as individuals. I really enjoy that we all get a chance to get creative in store too. We merchandise everything you see and put different looks together in our windows. I also love our customers! they really are the nicest people I have had the pleasure of serving. I've been in retail for 7 years and have met some really interesting people so I can honestly say that d&e are lucky to have such lovely people walk through the doors each day, it makes the day so lovely.

How long have you worked for d&e?

Hmmm... ages! I think I am coming up to two years now this October. Gosh time has flown!

What's your fave product in the store at the moment?

At the moment my favourites would have to be the new candy stripe cloud brooches and I just love our mink pink designer clothing collection.

Fave blogs/websites?

Facebook hehe... I actually don't do a lot of following blogs, I know, shame on me! I also know they have been around a really long time, perhaps this year will be the year that I start getting involved and looking around. I love made it, etsy, finders keepers market, fashion journal and peppermint mags.

It's no secret that we love cute girls wearing cute vintage dresses, so what could be better then girls in frocks riding cool retro bikes? Our friend and up-and-coming filmmaker, Suzie made a little video a few months back of the girls from frocks on bikes, looks like a great way to get out there in your prettiest dress, meet some cool chicks and have a bucket-load of fun doing it!
